Does MacBook Pro's lid position affect airflow of the computer's cooling? I'm asking this since I'd like to run heavy apps on my 15" MBP using an external monitor and keeping the Mac almost closed.

i doubt it makes that much difference, but why do you want the lid almost closed anyway. you could just turn the brightness right down or something if its to do with not wanting the display to show.

Closing the lid will affect the temperatures to some extent but you shouldn't notice any substantial increase in temperatures because the macbook pro's cooling system is designed blow the hot air out from the hinge part.
