One of the things I love about my Macs is how well they sleep, and more importantly wake up.

Thus, it frustrates me when anything causes them insomnia. The most recent thing I have noticed is that when I have an SMB share connected to my Windows box or an Airport Disk connected the iMac stays awake all night. Even if no files are actually in use on the connected network resource.

I'd really like to deploy a NAS type solution, like the Airport Disk, for files I want close at hand, but not necessarily on my internal HDD. Mainly so that the files can be accessed from the PC, iMac or iBook.

Is there any way to do this without keeping the iMac from going to sleep?

e.g. is there some way to have the network share unmount automatically if no files are in use for a hour or two?

I found stuff about Sleepwatcher, but since the iMac never wants to go to sleep I doubt it'll be launched. (Would seem to be more useful for the laptop where sleep is initiated by closing the lid.)

Thanks!
