Dear Forumners:

I recently acquired an older NEC Spectraview Reference 271 (PA271W), quite cheaply. I calibrated the screen using SpectraView 2 & Datacolor Spyder 3 Pro, but all I can get in terms of brightness/luminance is ca. 140 cd/m2 max. I created 3 different profiles with different luminance settings:
  1. low: target 120 cd/m2 - calibrated 120 cd/m2
  2. normal: target 140 cd/m2 - calibrated 140 cd/m2
  3. bright: target 180 cd/m2 - calibrated 144.2 cd/m2

The screen has 17k operation hours on the clock and was previously used in a (heavy) smoking environment. It does not smell anymore at all, but has a quite noticeable yellowish/brownish tint when not calibrated or immediately after switching it on.

I therefore assume that background illumination either cannot provide full brightness, or that the smoke has covered the CCFL such that the calibration can only correct above tint at luminance settings up to roughly 140 cd/m2.

Does this make sense? Is there an manual or guide how to disassemble the NEC and clean/replace the CCFL background lights?

Thanks a lot,

Magnus
