Hi there,
I need a second power adapter for a new MacBook Pro (85W MagSafe Power Adapter) to carry around with me. I just read about fifty posts from people who love Apple (as do I) but hate these power adapters - - most common complaint is that they fray, and don't last.
My question: is there a better alternative?
Thanks for any advice.
(by the way, one feature I like on my current Apple power adapter, for my G4 powerbook, is that it lights up green when there's juice. I'm hoping to get this feature with whatever power adapter I get for the new MacBook Pro)...

You can get generic ones on eBay; they're basically regular bricks soldered to Magsafe heads, and run about half the price of official adapters. They won't last any longer than the regulars, as the flaw is in the Magsafe head itself, but at 40 bucks a pop, they'll effectively last twice as long per dollar.

Thank you all for your advice. I'll check out the mikgyver and the knock-offs. My gosh, you'd think Apple would attend to the obvious flaw design in its own product!
Cheers,
malch
