I thought i ask here what apps you all use for chroma keying on mac and why, what are their advantages?

I have been using FCP pro, i recently tried FCP x but was not thrilled about the chroma keying in it, lack of control, although i was impressed by the speed after suffering with FCP Pro's rendering and having to convert all the videos to Apple Pro Res 422 (LT) with MPEG Stream app or Compressor i have started to play with After effects and Premiere today and i was more impressed with after effects and the quality it puts out.

But for chroma keying, im new to this game, for one the better app would have to have more flexibility, control over the colors and editing, faster rendering unlike FCP Studio where you again have to watch the format for editing.

Please do let me know, im trying to decide which has the best work flow and gets the best results

As always, you can never go wrong with Adobe After Effects. I personally find that I get better results with that than I do with Final Cut.

the color key in AE seems strange, are you using 3rd party Keying plugins?

You don't want to use color key. Use the keylight plugin.

As for 3rd party, primate is a good one.

No matter what plugin you use, you're always going to have much more control and options through a compositing program like AE rather than through the NLE itself.

NLE ? sorry what is that?

I use DV Matte Pro from DV Garage. Fast and pretty good. For more difficult keys Primate very good very slow render. Both are plugins for FCP7.

NLE = Non Linear Editor
