Need a flat 15" monitor for my Ibook. Suggestion?

I got an ibook one year ago and i almost never use it outside...anyway, i want to buy a 15" flat display. Is it possible to connect an apple one in it or should i buy a 300$ adaptor (like vga to dvi or adc or something)?

If it is too expensive, do you have a good suggestion of good (not too expensive) 15" display? I heard about LG...What do you think?

You can't hook any current Apple LCD with an ADC connection to it unless you buy a $400 adapter.

The best you can do is a VGA connection. I've heard that Samsung's and Viewsonic's are pretty good though.

youll have to buy one off ebay because apple doesnt make 15 inch flat panels anymore.

I've just got a 17" flat sony X72 which is SUPERB! It was about $600 and is DVI digital which is great. Get a little VGA-->DVI adapter and it will run of any PC/iBook whatever. I use it with a true DVI input into a Radeon 8500 and the picture quality is wonderful.
 
I'm assuming you have a Dual-USB, Snow iBook. You can get the VGA connection for the iBook's video out port (about $20 if you don't already have one, same price as the TV-Out connector and the same port) and get a nice 19 inch Flat Screen CRT or LCD with an analog connection. Some LCDs have both VGA and DVI, some have lots of different connections.

Be careful of the ones that are VGA only, though. Most of them are cheap, but some of them are really bad quality.

The Sony X72 that I mentioned above has a triple-input. It has 1 DVI port, and 2 VGA ports. You can actually hook it up to two computers at once, then just switch inputs on the front button - sensational in my opinion!
 
buy a tv, and use the mini vga to s-video connector for the ibook. Its like 20 bucks.
 
Don't use a tv instead of a monitor unless it is a fancy tv with lots of lines of resolution. There is a reason why a 27" tv costs the same as a 17" or 19" monitor. I have the video adapter for the iBook and a 27" tv. The adapter has both composite (RCA) and s-video connectors. The s-video is superior - if you use composite, then black text on a white background has a lot of rainbow colours around the text.

But even with s-video, I find only 640 x 480 resolution on the tv is legible with smaller point text.

Don't get a TV, period. Get a nice 17" digital flat screen, use it analog, but the digital's always there for the next machine you get...

what are you talking about??? Compusa has them set up with the powermacG4's :cool: they even have a price tag next to them-$599 USD
 
I bought this Cornea 17" monitor and it is a fantastic value at $550.

It's got so many connectors: VGA (what you will use), DVI (won't help you with the iBook, which doesn't do DVI output, but maybe your next computer?), composite video (for Playstation, etc - looks great), S-Video, and coaxial cable (for the TV tuner). It's even wall mountable, which is great if you use it as a TV like I do:

The wall mounted monitor looks sweet - I should post a pic of my setup sometime.

Anyway, look into Cornea monitors in general:
http://www.corneasystems.com, They have monitors from 15" to 19" with various features, and I have found that they are the best value monitors available right now, perhaps because they don't have the name recognition so they are undercutting prices in order to gain market share...
