Why not go back into your OS that is currently installed and see if the disk appears on the desktop? If so click on it and it will restart and start the installer

Did you put in, restart the computer and then hold c until the boot screen proceeded?

Okay... try an alternative.

With the Leopard DVD in the drive, hold down the option key at startup until you see the images of the bootable devices show up. Simply click the icon of the disc, and go from there.
