need a little guidance regarding the update

I do not use ICloud as my back up. The communication company I use for my business offers a back and I also use the ITunes back.
I read about restoring as a new phone, it that the best way to approach this update, or would you all recommend the old fashion way and just restore from ITunes.
As you might tell I am a little amateurish regarding all of this so your help would be greatly appreciated.
