Need a little help about alerts

good day to everyone. I'd like to know how is possible to NOT receive email alerts about every post made in threads I'm following.
I'd like to open the web site, check the alerts in the control section above and read/reply to them. Everything without having my email inbox flooded with notifications.
Is that possible ?
I tried to play with the Alert Preferences setting, leaving only the "Quote your message" box checked, but I'm still receiving emails for every post in the thread, even if my isn't quoted
What I'm doing wrong ?

Go to this link and uncheck the ... and receive email... box. That should fix you up.

Already done but I'm still receiving mails from some threads
Maybe I subscribed to those threads before unchecking the box ? Is there any way to fix it afterwards ?

Does it seem to only come from particular forum sections?

There is a separate option here to tell you about news posts to certain forums you are watching. You can check the forum then disable the emails in the dropdown. Could that be it?
