Help! i need an old mac just for downloading at home.

I was thinking something like an old G3 & G4 tower....
I already have a macbook pro that i use as my main computer,
but i dont want to bog this down with downloading....
What is cheapest and can do basic bit torrent downloading ?

I say go with an older G4 Powermac tower. I've seen them go for $100-$150 regularly on ebay and craig's list. The nice thing about the towers is that you can easily upgrade the hard drives(120Gig max per drive on the older G4's), since the older mac's came stocked with fairly small drives.(6/10/20Gig) I run bittorrent regularly on my G4 and it does it fine.

I also recomend finding one locally. You may pay a little more than ebay, but you won't have to pay $30-$50 for shipping.

wow how come i never thought of this, i m going to put my old p4 just for downloading instead of just keeping it there for storage....:)

Heh, I just use my main PC and uTorrent, uTorrent is fast, small, and has practially no overhead, and doesnt slow my machine at all. Though I suppose that HyperThreading stuff helps too. ;)

Right now, all my machine is doing is seeding out torrents that I got off of Blackcats Games.
