Need a Mac just for downloading.......

Help! i need an old mac just for downloading at home.

I was thinking something like an old G3 & G4 tower....
I already have a macbook pro that i use as my main computer,
but i dont want to bog this down with downloading....
What is cheapest and can do basic bit torrent downloading ?

I have seen old iMacs at thrift stores sell for $40. They are great in that they are complete w/ screen and usually come with some variant of OSX.

do a deal locally to get a cheap Mac so you don't need to pay for shipping.

If that doesn't work out, go to eBay.

you could get a g3 iMac, a g3 tower, something like that.

I say go with an older G4 Powermac tower. I've seen them go for $100-$150 regularly on ebay and craig's list. The nice thing about the towers is that you can easily upgrade the hard drives(120Gig max per drive on the older G4's), since the older mac's came stocked with fairly small drives.(6/10/20Gig) I run bittorrent regularly on my G4 and it does it fine.

I also recomend finding one locally. You may pay a little more than ebay, but you won't have to pay $30-$50 for shipping.

Heh, I just use my main PC and uTorrent, uTorrent is fast, small, and has practially no overhead, and doesnt slow my machine at all. Though I suppose that HyperThreading stuff helps too.

Right now, all my machine is doing is seeding out torrents that I got off of Blackcats Games.
