I've been using a burton backpack for a few years and have always carried a laptop in it using a simple sleeve. I've had a few close calls dropping my backpack and worrying about damaging my laptop. I'm thinking a specified laptop backpack, which keeps the laptop from touching the bottom and might give me some peace of mind.

Any real advantages/disadvantages to having a built-in laptop sleeve?

Any way to better protect a laptop in a non-laptop specific backpack?

I have a north face and mountain hardwear backpack picked out. I'm leaning towards the north face but only the mountain hardwear has a specified laptop pocket.

I have a LYPC outdoor concept backpack I use everyday. It has a built in laptop sleeve and I love it. I would recommend a backpack with the sleeve inside if you are going to carry around a laptop. It does give you that peace of mind.
