I just bought a new mac mini (baseline) maxed out the ram. I'm running PLEX and so I have MKV 1080p content (medium bitrate). After playing from my FW800 enclosure which is made by OWC, it has 2 500 gig drives raid 0, 7200rpm. I bought this enclosure 2 years ago.

Now, for some reason, it likes to constantly self-cycle, I can hear the hard drives trying to work. I tried USB and it does the same thing. I'm wondering if it's a chipset issue on the OWC enclosure.

I have a seagate 1 TB w/ 32 mb cache in my mac pro as additional backup. I was going to try that in a different enclosure, but I don't want to do that if i'm going to get the same results.

Is there anything out there that I can try and get faster results?

Give OWC tech support a call, they may be a firmware update for the enclosure chipset.
