I would like to be able to at a push of button have a file that has recorded the previous ten minutes of audio. You could use this device to settle arguments over who said what for a given task or purpose. Could be very useful! It can be called the "witness" and future models could include a camera and be called the "iWitness"!

Hm, I'm sorry to hear about the troubles in your relationship. I know you're not looking for advice, so I won't give any but I hope you can figure out a way to fix things d(^^)

Just for you, or for anyone else out there looking for an app that can record, there are voice activated recording apps available for the iPhone. I had one at one point and remember that I could set the duration of the recording time, and it was activated by sound. Maybe not the best fit for your situation, but the app I used could be set to be triggered by varying levels of volume, so if your discussions get loud, that might work for you.

Just look up "voice activated recording app" or "snore recording app" because a lot of them are geared towards recording yourself snore. Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, I edited my original post after letting the air cool a bit, quite frustrating.

Did a little digging around and aside from what you mentioned I don't think anything like this exists. It could be quite useful for all sorts of applications: work, school, etc.. An excellent way of getting info "straight from the horses mouth" to make sure you execute something correctly and to have proof if there is ever a dispute over what was asked!

In a small design like the iPod shuffle you could clip it on your shirt and always have it!

It's not the 10 minute recording device you'd asked for, but there is a Kick Starter project called Kapture, to manufacture a device which functions as a 60-second buffered loop. The loop continuously overwrites itself until you tap the device to save a clip.

There's also HEARD, an iPhone app that lets you capture sounds from up to 5 minutes in the past.

You could also just use a flash drive audio recorder to record continuously -- for hours at a time or all day long if needed. They're small and cheap -- ~$10 and up.

I was going to suggest Heard.

Just bear in mind that in many places it is illegal to record someone without their consent. Be careful out there!
