Hey guys. So I have a SR MBP 2.2 with the notorious 8600 graphics card. My first graphics card gave out around June 2008, and I got it replaced. Last week, I took my laptop into an Apple store because the optical drive wasn't working and I was getting artifacts and graphical glitches. I figured my graphics card was dying again. Got my laptop back today, and I noticed they replaced the optical drive (which now sounds different), and they replaced my logic board again. I asked them if it was because the graphics card had died, and they said yes. I told them that I had already had my graphics card replaced once before, with the same board (revision 2)....I asked them how they could be certain that this card too wouldn't fail, since the first time I got it replaced the person told me that it wouldn't have the defect. The "Genius" replied by saying that this was a new revision and so shouldn't have the problem...When I asked if my warranty for the graphics card would be extended past the limit of my applecare (September 2010), he said no. So if this card inevitably dies after that, I'm screwed. Is there anyway I could ask Apple to replace this machine? Maybe put in a different logic board, like the one that uses the 9600 GT? I use my laptop for school all the time, and being without it for 6 days was really inconvenient. I know people here have had Apple give them replacement machines because of the 8600 issues, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips or ways to go about maybe politely asking Apple for a replacement? Also, I noticed that the people at the Apple store replaced my optical drive with a PATA one, and I was wondering if thats different from what it came with? I'm pretty sure SATA was in use when I got my laptop.
