I have successfully set up a WD 1TB HD connected via USB to my airport extreme base, outsourcing the iPhoto & iTunes libraries. The only problem is that my WD HD goes into sleep mode after a while and needs a reboot to continue working.

Can anyone suggest a high capacity, dependable external HD that can handle this job and be ON all the time (or to be awakened when reconnecting)?
TIA.
Sam

You need a HD or NAS that has Wake-On-Lan (WOL) capability. Maybe your WD has this option and you only have to turn it on (see manual).

I myself have a QNAP NAS which supports WOL. It wakes up in a few seconds when I access it.

Thank you for your comment. I did call WD support and they said there are no customizable setting for my specific HD model. FWIW, recently I saw a company in MacLife called Pogoplug that does offer a device for connecting HDs enabling remote access.
