Hey guys

I just swapped the 128Gb ssd in my Macbook air for a 256gb and want to put the 128 in a external case but all I see are NVMe cases. Is there an external case for a Mac SSD?

Yes… you can find external enclosures here…

Amazon has a few examples of 12+16 USB enclosures...
A few here...
Still a bit pricey... but it's what you need.

I wouldn't spend much (if anything) to convert an old 128gb SSD into an external. The Amazon cases in the link above are in the $60-70 price range which just doesn't make sense to me for a SSD that is worth (maybe?) $10. And if this is from an older computer that has seen heavy use, I wonder how much life is left in it?

Completely depends on your needs, but 128gb of storage isn't much. I'd rather take the money and apply it to a larger external SSD.

As you know, the Apple SSDs use a proprietary pinout arrangement -- you can't use them with "ordinary" nvme enclosures.

There ARE enclosures that will accept them, but considering the prices (looks to be around $70), it's probably not worth it.

For that and a few dollars more, you could buy a Crucial X9 1tb USB3.1 gen2 external SSD, and have 9x the storage space...
