Need an external HDD

Hi there.

I need a new external HDD for my mac. Ill use it for transporting notes from and to school. The Harddrive has to be:

- Stabile and secure
- Small
- Portable (USB power from the computer)
- At least 500 GB

What would you buy if you were me? What would you recommend?

Ive been looking on these 4:
Freecom Mobile Drive XXS
Freecom Mobile Drive Classic 3.0 (My mac does not support USB 3.0)
Freecom Mobile Drive Mg (Its more expensive than the XXS, whats the difference?)
WD My Passport Essential (Isen't Mac supported. It requires re formatting.)

Ill think ill go for the Freecom Mobile Drive XXS, because my Mac doesn't support USB 3.0 so it doesn't matter for me.

What do you think about the XXS? Is it stable? How is it?

All drives are Mac supported. Reformatting the drive takes less than a minute with Disk Utility. Freecom is most likely okay but I don't have any experience of them.

Since it's USB 2.0, probably not much but I would get 5400rpm though.

Well, I recently purchased the 1TB Western Digital 2.5" SE portable HD.
So far, it's working very well and it's really small too.
Definitely recommend it!

I have many western digital hard drives they are all great, I have recently bought a WD my passport, it is great' for portability' and the best thing of all with WD is the price they are fantastic!!!

First of all Hello......
My self keath Jones and i am newbie to this forum. I like this forum so much because all the issues and resources about mac is resolved here.

I am also looking for external HDD for my mac. My query is same as that of Wasd9595. Hope some solution and good opinion is shared here for resolving problem.

I have been using a WD MyPassport 1tb USB drive as my Time Capsule for a while, works great, sleeps once the back up is done, no issues. I also have a 2TB WD MyBook that I use as a media storage device over USB/Firewire and it also works great.
