Need and Gotta Have

Hi, so it looks like this is in my near future.

I know the term "need" is relative, but what do I NEED and what would be a "gotta have" (24" display, etc") ? A ram upgrade is already in my future.

I know enough not to buy ram or hdd from Apple. I currently have a 1tb network drive at home. I also have a portable 320gb USB drive.
