Ok, first I have a mid 2010 13" MacBook Pro running mavericks (10.9.3).

I want to install a windows partition on my laptop but only have access to a physical install disc of windows vista home basic and don't really have the money to go buy a full version of windows 7 that bootcamp 5 apparently requires.

I have access to a free download version of windows 8 student upgrade through my school (they will give me a unique key, so it is a legit version). They also offer windows 7 upgrade, but I think I'd rather just go to windows 8.

Is there a way to use the downloaded upgrade and physical docs of an older version of windows to install windows using bootcamp? I have an 8 gb thumb drive to use as well. Would I download windows to that and use it during the bootcamp install process?

Thanks for any help you can give me!
