Need child-friendly headphones and iPad Mini cover/case for long plane trip

Can anyone recommend a case and headphones for an iPad Mini which would be somewhat child-friendly? We have a 5 year old and are hoping the iPad will be a pacifier on a transatlantic flight...

While people say otterboxes are good investments, if you're just going to use it only a few times you're better off getting a cheap rugged case off of Amazon or EBay.
