So i bought this sintech adapter, never got it tonwork because of some ionvme kernel panics.
so i ordered a new one unbranded green short. Tried that one and no problems.
i noticed on my sintech adaptor wheni removed this black tape covering the soldered pins that two of them were not soldered. I contacted the seller from ebay and asked if it was supposed to be like that and he said yes. But he offeredto send a new one and told me specifically not to remove the tape.I ordered ano brand adaptor also at the same time so i had the green one, but did not use it because ive read here on this forum that the sintech long adaptors are recommended over the green ones .

So im just wondering whats the deal. and yes all pin are soldered on the green adaptor.

Yes, it is ok if certain pins are unconnected (specifically pin 49/DEVSLP, perhaps others). Whether those are the particular pins your picture, I don't know. See:

Recent Sintech adapters—either short or long—are the only ones recommended by the wiki. If your Sintech wasn't working it is likely defective or was seated improperly. If the tape has pulled back or warped, it may be expose pins and short them. (I believe that happened after I installed a Sintech and used it for a bit: I think the heat shrunk the tape slightly, causing a short and kernel panics. I removed it, resituated the tape, reinstalled, and didn't have further problems.) If your generic adapter works, then you're lucky. But I would stick with Sintech in the future, and get a replacement if you can.

From top to bottom on the adapter it’s pin 5 and the last one that are not soldered. Havent found any diagrams of the pinouts so i have no clue.
But the tape seemed to be stting fine, no pins exposed and im pretty sure i made it sit properly. But yeah the other adapter is still working aNd no problems.
And yeah my macbook pro is early 2015 13” Using a wd blue sn550 500 gb
