need converter help, Imovie/final cut doesn't import my video files

my video cam, JVC everio, saves files in .tod, i DLed final cut pro and it and Imovie will not import these files, does anyone know of an easy to use converter i can DL and convert with thats not super complicated?
and a bit of step by step help with the program would be sweet,
