This weekend I'm getting a new iMac. I want to migrate to the iMac from my MacBook Pro.

I backup my MacBook Pro using Time Machine with Time Capsule.

So when I get my new iMac do I click something along the lines of migrate from mac by using Time Capsule?

Assuming that's correct, I'm confused about the potential problems this might cause.

First off, you need to authorize your computer to play iTunes correct?
So would this count as two authorizations?

And how about iCloud? My MacBook Pro is associated with iCloud. What would happen now?

Would it just be easier to copy and paste my files than use migration assistant? This seems like it would cause a ton of problems.

Migration Assistant, start it on both machines and connect them together with firewire or CAT5 or USB if you have to..

Follow the prompts.. Its really easy.

It would count as one additional authorization, for two authorized machines total.

You can link multiple devices/computers to one iCloud account. That's kind of the entire point.

I don't think it would be easier.

You can also go into an Apple Store and ask them to migrate your data.
I think this is still a free service with a new Mac.
