Hi guys (if this works, wow, great times):
I'm on a 2010 6-core Mac Pro (5.1). My current ATI 5870 1GB struggles a bit in DaVinci and I want to upgrade for 4k video, and ultimately monitors too.
I've followed BareFeats and know of MacVidCards and almost pulled the trigger a couple of times.
As I read up on things now, I get the feeling I don't need a flashed card for my setup, is this correct?
Why is there almost no talk of R9 280X or 290X? Seeing that Apple use ATI in the nMP that might be an even smoother ride than NVIDIA?
Will a PC 280/290X or a GTX 780 work with my Mac out of the box (provided I power it)? A 280X could be a lot of bang for the buck for me in FCPX and DaVinci if it works. Boot screen would be nice, but not 100% necessary.
I realise this is the type of question that gets repeated, but the longer threads have lots of noise and talk about a lot older MPs too. I feel my Mac is pretty up to date and someone might just give me a quick answer.
If you are knowledgeable (preferably from experience, not just reading), I'd really appreciate your input. Thanks!
