I just installed a SSD drive where my optical drive was in my iMac, and what I want to do now is have iTunes on my SSD access/store everything from the original HD in the iMac. Someone told me to hold alt then click iTunes, then go to the iTunes folder in my old HD, but it will not let me access it. I keep getting this message:

The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file.

I changed the permission of the file to read & write, but I still cant access it. I want to do this for my iTunes and my iPhoto apps, since I have a lot of GBs of stuff. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

I had this exact same problem on my new iMac. The trick is to change the permission of the Music folder where the iTunes library is located to Read & Write as you already did. Then click the gear icon in the bottom left of the Get Info window. Choose "Apply to enclosed items."
