Need help buying an older mac

Its for my girlfriend as her dell just started smoking. She only uses it to play Facebook games check mail and surf the web. Budget is £400 any ideas?

I think any intel mac should do what you've described.
My 2006 MacBook has no trouble with web and flash content.

I don't know if Europe has anything like Craigslist, but I'd look there.

Then follow the basic rule of electronics: buy the newest one you can afford.

Thanks, she wanted to buy a windows machine but thought I'd see if I could get a just as good mac for the price I think she'd love it more, also should I bother contactIng dell since the laptop started smoking and burnt a small hole above the speaker grill.
 
I'd definitely contact dell.
You might get nothing out of it.
You might get a new Dell out of it.

I'd still buy the Mac.

Yeah il deffinately push for her to get a mac. Probably one of the white MacBooks, il contact dell not looking forward to it I've heard they have bad customer service and it will probably cost a bomb for the call.

Yeah il scan eBay later knowing her shell want some pink new and shiny laptop instead il just have to convince her!
 
yeah thats what i was thinking, either that or a decal. only ones i can find in the price range are the old design macbook pro and the old design white macbook, i just hope these will last as long as a new windows machine would. mines still going strong after 4 years but these ones I'm looking at would be older :/
 
For what your describing any Intel MacBook in good condition should last her quite some time. Nothing she does is really intensive and as long as she takes good care of it should last you for a while.
 
Probably check on eBay. You can probably snag a White Macbook for about $500 in great working condition and shape. Also, if she doesnt want a mac, you might as well get her a Windows PC....

I think she will be getting an 08 MacBook white, she still wants a pink case / keyboard cover though. Only place I can find them really is eBay and theyre cheap hong kong ones.
