Hi all fellow MRians!

Just a little info about myself. I'm an IT researcher and am currently driving a 2005 BMW M3 and I'm looking at these 3 options. Please help me with my buying decision. Thanks!

1) BMW M5
2) Mercedes SL500
3) BMW 7 series.

Thanks!

strange place to ask about cars...

personally, the SL appeals more than the BMW's, but Im sure you could be more inventive with that kind of money...?!

So what do you recommend?

So what do you recommend with a $15000 / month paycheck?

Haha, keep the m3 and redistribute some wealth?

It's ok, we are just jealous. Seriously though, do you realise what a difference one month of your wages would make to many people?!

Also, why is the s class not on your list?

Well it really depends on your needs.

Do you have a family?
Do you have to transport said faimly in the car?
Will this be a daily driver or a weekend car?
Since you already have an M3 and the cars you listed as possibilities can we assume you like to go fast?

In other words we need more info.

I'd say the Mercedes SL500.
Why?
Because you are on an :apple: site, and it has SL in it, and that is the abbreviation for Snow Leopard.

Okay so you're telling us that you had a 2005 M3 (E46, I assume), which is a 2 door sports coupe.

Now you're looking at a fast saloon, then perhaps a hard top convertible and then a fully luxurious sedan?

You clearly have no idea what you want. I think if you were really looking to buy these cars you would know what type/body style you wanted. I've never come across anyone that says they've narrowed it down to three cars and those three are from completely different classes.

In other words, I raise the BS flag.

Pics of E46?

What's wrong with the 2005 BMW M3? And what does your job as an IT "researcher" have to do with any of this?

I am getting a BMW M5 very soon.....like in 2012......haha but it looks awesome. I am jealous....but the SLK is faster......

Go somewhere else and brag about your income?

I agree. Go to a car review website. No reason to post here and get minimal feedback.

Generally people who have money don't talk about it, and generally people who talk about having money don't have it.

Not 100%, but quite close.

You need help alright, but I don't think a new car is going to cut it. I guess $15,000 per month still isn't enough to buy you some class. Look for ignorant kiss-ups elsewhere please. Thanks.

If I was buying a car right now I'd get a Prius, regardless of the paycheck.

I'd say a E350 BlueTec with that income.

Other than that i'd say a used SL500, should be able to get something really nice for about 40k and invest the rest of the money.

Used MB without the majority of the digital dash crap (use your iPhone for navigation), or get a used AMG or Sport V8 E class ... which buys you fast MB that you won't worry about scratches on.

---

The BMW 7 series falls like a rock like the MB S and SL class, so you can likely get those for far less and newer than a BMW 3 or 5 series or MB E class.

I hate the look of the M6 personally. I say get the new M3 with the v8 that thing flys, and then with the cash left over it, get a nice ECU, get it tuned, lower it a bit, get some racing wheels, hit the autocross circuit and have fun. I personally love the look of the M3 I personally think it is the best looking BMW.

Don't get a Merc, take that thing into a corner like the M3 and that would be the end of that. Really Mercs are there to say look what I have something with power, but an automatic transmission... Get the M3 or if you really want the M5, and never look back.
