Hi there.

I have a 2018 MBA at the moment, but i now want a new mac, desktop this time.
I’m drooling on the iMac M1, but with october event on the horizon, should i wait ?
What i read about the rumours, is that the iMac wont get the M2 this year.

I was considering the Mac Mini (which is rumoured to come with M2), but i like the all-in-one style of the iMac, and that it comes with a pretty nice display, instead of buying all of those if i go for the Mac mini.

What are your guys predictions? Do you think the iMac will get M2 in october ?
Not sure what to do here.

I’m going to use it mainly for xcode and playing some native supported M# games.
I really like the minimalistic with the iMac, and the studio is out of my budget.

Thanks :)

I think there will be an M2 iMac soon, though I have no idea if they will be released this fall vs. the spring of 2023. The thing is, while it will be an improvement over the M1 iMac, don't expect earth-shattering improvements... at least not with the processor itself. The M2 is a comparatively modest upgrade to the M1—particularly on a desktop Mac where battery life isn't an issue.

Improvements to other components and features is where the value may be found. I think the current iMac M1 is a great machine, but if you can wait a few months, I would do so.

In the end it really depends on what else (beside Xcode) you want to do with the iMac. I don't use Xcode, but I hear a lot of developers love the M1 Macs. If my needs weren't beyond the capability of the current iMacs, I would have loved to get one.
