I have a 2015 Macbook Pro with around 250GB of storage. I was previously attempting to connect it to my old pc laptop to transfer over some old images and music so I could retire that laptop. What I didn't realize is I apparently copied over a lot more than that, like a lot of file from my C drive. Now, my system storage is showing that 90-ish GB's of storage is being taken up within the System section but I can't seem to find 80% of it.

I've attempted to run a system storage check and it never finds anything to purge in the System section. Any help or direction where I can look to find out where I this might have transferred to would help a lot as my macbook is just constantly at max storage with little on it.

There are several free tools that can help identify which files are on your system. I have used Omnidisk Sweeper and Disk Inventory X, but there are many others.

If I understand you correctly, you copied over some unexpected folders from the Windows machine. If so, can you search your drive for *.exe, *.dll files or standard windows folders like "Program Files", "Program Files(x86)"?

If you can locate those folders you deleted them.

You can also see how big the folders are using this technique. https://9to5mac.com/2016/07/01/how-to-show-size-folders-finder-list-view-mac/ This may help you locate the folders that are using a lot of space and came from your Windows machine.

Thank you! I'll check those out!

Can you restore it from a time machine backup from before it went whacky?

I'll check it out but it depends because this import of files from my PC laptop was done around 2 years ago.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give it a try and let you know what I find. Thanks again!
