need help connecting my macbook pro to toshiba hdtv

I have the mini displayport to hdmi adapter in my macbook pro.... I have a hdmi cable from the adapter into the hdmi 1 end in the back of the toshiba... i turned them both on.... from the toshiba remote, I clicked the input button and switched to hdmi1... no signal??? what am I doing wrong??? can anyone help me??? frustrating....:confused:
 
Go to system preferences / hardware / displays and make sure that you are all set up in there.

As I recall, I had to do this the first time I connected my MBP to a Samsung HDTV.
