Need help connecting two external monitors to 2012 Unibody Macbook Pro

I currently have one Dell Ultra Sharp U2717D (1440p @ 60 hz) monitor connected via the Macbook's single MiniDisplay port/Thunderbolt port and am looking to connect a second one. Thinking about purchasing a thunderbolt dock and connecting both monitors to it. Would it work if I connected them in such a way? If not, then how could I pull this off? Also, would either monitor suffer from lag?
