Need help converting video formats

I'm doing a project for some people and they need the video in anything BUT a .mov file. I've tried converting it into a MPEG-4 file, an AVI file--both right out of FCP and off of a .mov file in Quicktime. NOTHING seems to be getting me a descent file without pixelation. Does anyone have an idea for me?!
