Hello friends,

Need help deciding on what to buy...I currently have a 2011 MBP that needs a new battery. Everything else works, so I am going to fix the battery and use it as my HOME BASE COMPUTER.

I do want to upgrade to a new laptop in case my 2011 dies. I am a Real Estate agent, so don't play game or make videos. I am hesitant to buy the AIR because of the outdated design, but do like the 12 hour battery. Any help???

If you are going to be using this as a real estate agent and taking it places with you, you should get a MacBook, not an Air. The Air is a really old design and represents the past. If you can swing the cash, you'll be happier with the MacBook.

although I do not agree with ZolakHJS's motivation, the suggestion to check out the Macbook is a good one. Even the base model probably fits all your needs, except for the screen size maybe. Try the keyboard before you buy, not everyone likes it.
The alternative is to buy an Air anyway. Maybe a bit outdated but your cheapest option.

MBP if you want power and the new look but with connectivity, MB if you want portability and a cheaper price.
I wouldn't touch the MBA with that screen, it's just too dated and the equivalent 2017 MB out performs it on the benchmarks and has similar battery life.

I just got a MBA for work and I love it. The battery life is awesome. It is really up to your personal preferences.

Depending on you "away from home" usage, I think the MB may be the thing for you. Light, and gorgeous screen. But check it out, including the keyboard, at the Apple Store before buying.

I opened a similar thread a week ago and went and bought the MacBook. That was a mistake, go for a refurb pro or an air. My refurb pro arrived today, I'm typing on it now and I am quite happy.

In reality I know I should have bought the air, but I just couldn't pick up such an old computer.

Both the Air and retina MacBook are good computers - in my opinion, they are surprisingly different designs. Is the 10-11+ hours the retina MacBook can provide (for standard-use business software) enough battery life for your needs?
