how can I use my phone without using any data?

I only want to be able to text/call in emergencies

I tried to sign up for the world traveler (I have the other plan, which allows me to call Europe for cheaper)

but today is Sunday, and at&t is closed...

how can I tell them I want to add the feature?

what do I need to turn off to prevent my phone from connecting to data?

thanks

Jack

You can try keeping your phone in airplane mode ...., call AT&T from overseas , maybe they can activate the service by phone

Saludos

I'd say turn it off if you don't need it. Keep in mind that if people text you, higher charges will apply than a standard text message.

yea, that's where I'm going, Spain

so I actually have my data roaming turned off now...

what does it do exactly?

so since it's turned off, when I'm in Spain, I shouldn't use my internet at all because i'll be charged a lot right?

thanks

Jack

I was in Europe for about a month last year, and am going next week as well for two weeks. When I was there, I simply turned off data roaming. I could still make and receive phone calls and texts just fine, but was not charged one cent for data (because I didn't use any).

And like musio said: Settings > General >Network > Turn data roaming OFF.

If you don't want any surprise calls charging you, turn on airplane mode. You can still use the phone for music, alarm, games, etc, but nothing that could cost you will work.

so I've had my iphone 3g since July 11th

and the data roaming has been cut off...have I been missing anything since it's been off?

thanks
