Use AIM (aol instant messenger). When you turn off your ipod touch don't push the home button first. While your in the AIM app just push the lock button to let the app run so you can recieve messages.

He wants to text, like cell phones and stuff, not just people logged onto AIM at a certain time. He wants to use his Ipod Touch like a cell for texting. Read the OP before you post a nonhelpful reply.

Actually, he is right. To text with AIM, send your message to +1 and the number. For example, +15551234. Then when they reply it will come right back to your AIM account. The catch is in the text, it says something about the message being sent using AIM.

EDIT: Aaahhh! That's the second thread in a row you've beaten me macbookairman. :p

You need to chill out. He could have asked more in depth questions on how to send a SMS through the iPod touch. I was pointing him in the right direction. How does the old saying go "lead a horse to water";)
