I'm about to run out to the store and get a new hard drive for my moms imac G5 - 17 inch - preisight. I was curious what hard drive I should buy ... SATA vs ATA...desktop hard drive vs laptop hard drive.

Also once I have the old hard drive out and the new one in how do I instal OS X on there? Do I just instert the install CD and hold down the C key as usual?

desktop drive 3.5"
SATA i believe.

you'll install OS X by booting from the Disc as usual.

i don't think it should be all that hard to switch out to be honest with you.

I bought a HD from staples but there screws aren't in the correct place as the orignal HD. Does anyone know where I can order the exact HD that came with my computer?

I think I figured it out. The reason why the screws aren't in the right place is because the original HD that comes with the computer has an external housing around it. I think what I need to do is just take that housing off and put it on the new HD that I purchase.
