this is my problem...after i changed my hard drive with a new one i can't get my Imac to boot from dvd. when i try holding the C key...nothing happens... If i hold the option key down the mouse cursor appears and that's it...nothing else. can anyone please help me....thank you

What exact installation DVD do you use? The grey Restore DVD the Mac came with or another DVD?
Can you put the old HDD into an enclosure for 3.5" S-ATA HDDs and connect it to your Mac via USB or FIrewire and boot from it?

I use the original dvd instalation...bought from apple...the old hard drive is dead...

Thus it is the grey Restore DVD that originally came with your iMac, but you got them from Apple as replacement?
Do you have the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD or know someone, who does?

another problem

now i got the dvd to work (tiger 10.4.8) ....but my new 320 WD hard drive appears like 2.33 Tb size and i'm getting the input/output error when i try to partition the hard drive.
