Need Help - Itunes not reading Iphone

So I updated my software from 10.4.11 to 10.6.3 because the iPhone 4 would not sync with such old software.

Now when I connect my iPhone to the computer it charges but iTunes won't pick it up. It is like the iPhone isn't even connected. I have 9.2 iTunes. Any suggestions at how to get my iPhone to begin syncing?

have you tried pressing the sleep/wake button and the home screen button at the same time? this is a manual restore method.

Or reinstall itunes.
