I'm running iOS 8 GM on my iPad Air. This problem has existed for a while now. For some reason, iTunes says there are 27 photos on my iPad, which is using 8.7gb of space. However, I only have three photos on my iPad. When I check storage on my iPad, it says the same thing that iTunes does. How can this be and how can I fix it?

Have you checked the recetnly deleted folder introduced in iOS 8? Such a stupid feature..
 
Yes. It's completely empty. It's been like this for for a few betas. Don't know what's causing it.

I don't have an answer for you, but my mother's 5S shows 120 photos on her phone, but 202 are accessible when it's plugged into the computer. The 62 photos not on her phone had long since been deleted.

Looking for a solution as well. Check the photos folder on your device to see the files.
