My friend just bought a used 3G iPhone. Before he got it, the iPhone was master resetted. So from what I understand, there’s nothing on it. He tried some different ways to jailbreak it, but it hasn’t worked yet. Im not sure what he has done, but when he inserts in his PC now, iTunes tells him to reset the iPhone before he can use it. There are so many guides out there and he says he can’t find one who fits to his situation when he plugs it in. He can’t do anything on the iPhone itself, nothing with emergency or anything.

So is there anyone who can tell us what precisely to do from here? Which firmware to get on the iPhone, and then which software to jailbreak?

i'd suggest this, on the assumption that the phone is not yet updated to 3.1:

Download the 3G 3.0.1 firmware file here: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750

After the iTunes message pops up, hold shift (Windows) or Option (Mac) and click Restore. Navigate to the 3.0.1 file and choose it to restore.

After that, use this tutorial to jailbreak:

If it is already on 3.1, then it can currently only be jailbroken on a Mac using Pwnage tool:

Hope that helps
