I have an iphone 3gs that was jailbroken in iOS 5.0.1. I want to go back to the factory settings, so I erased all content and settings, now my iphone is stuck at the screen with only a spining sign. Did I brick my iphone, what should I do, it is been like an hour since the iphone is in that state.

Connect to iTunes, put in DFU mode and restore to factory settings.

Don't ever do that with a jailbroken phone. Your phone is not bricked.

Just put it into DFU mode and restore it with Itunes.

Thanks, how can I put it down to DFU now. It seems that I can't shut it down at the moment.

There are many sites that can give you tutorial on how to do this.

Basically, here is what you need to do;

1. make sure your phone hook up to your PC and Itunes is open.
2. Press & hold power button & home button at the same time until the USB cable & Itunes logos your phone disappear. Release power button, keep holding home button until Itunes recognizes it.
3. Itunes will tell you that your phone is in recovery mode, click okay, then click restore.
4. Itunes will do the rest of the restore for you.

Thanks, in the past I always hold down the power button to shut down the phone first before the other process to get into DFU, this time I need to press& hold both power button and home button to get out of the current state.

it is now being restored.

I restored it and it returned to the page with the usb and itunes phase

If you restore it successfully, then your phone screen should have USB cable + Itune & the slide for emergency call at the bottom. This is the activation screen which is normal. Not the recovery screen which has only USB & Itune logo.

What if power button is broken

I have the perfect storm. My power button failed yesterday, and I am in the spinning screen mode. Any other options?

Anyone else?

Any other way to get my phone out of the black screen spinning loop without a working on/off button? I'm guessing that there's got to be something, right? Otherwise, to the Apple store?
