Hi to everyone!

I want to purchase a macbook to make music with ableton 8 , mastering, multiple tracks and vst's.

I'm trying to decide what to buy either a 4,1 or a 7,1 . options are :

macbook 4,1 : macbook 7,1

2,4 ghz(t8300) VS 2,4 ghz (p8600)

2gb ddr2 2gb ddr3

250 gb 5400rpm 250 gb

gma x3100 geforce 320m

____________ _______________

832 U.S. dollars 1,064 U.S. dollars

as u see , they both have the same cpu ghz but les FSB for the 4,1 than the 7,1 and same ram memory 2gb but ddr2 on the 4,1 and ddr3 on the 7,1...

the other differences are the screen on the 7,1 is better & the battery life is 10 hours.

pffff... don't know if that is worth the 200$ difference on the price....

what would you do??

any producers runing ableton on a 2.4 ghz early 2008 macbook??

pls help!!

The MacBook 7,1 is faster than the MacBook 4,1, even if they share the same clock speed numbers, The 7,1 has faster RAM, a much better GPU, better display, longer battery life (I get 4h out of my 4,1) and can hold up to 8GB RAM, which will be important for Ableton at some point.

The 200USD difference is completely worth it.

Get the new 7,1 MacBook, much better computer all around and you won't have to possibly deal with the cracking of the old model.I love my MB 6,1 so the 7,1 should be amazing. Not to mention the Intel Integrated graphics is horrible.

Definately Get The 7,1.

I had a macbook 3,1 with the X3100 graphics. It performs horribly. If you can, go for any macbook with an NVidia GPU.

No comparison...

Remember, there's more to performance than the number of gigahertz. That's why just a short while ago you saw Windows PCs racing to 4GHz or more while most Macs were "chugging along" at less than 1.5GHz. There's more to it than that - the new 7,1 Macbook is considerably faster than the 4,1, even if both do have a 2.4GHz processor; the T series C2D is much less efficient than the P series.

EDIT: Agreed with the others - the 4,1 has the OLD case and the 7,1 has the new. The biggest complaint with my wife's Macbook (also a 4,1 BTW) is the terrible graphics. The X3100 is a joke; get the newer model if no other reason than the Geforce 320M!

EDIT #2: BTW, I don't know where you are, but if you happen to be in the US and you happen to be close a Microcenter, they have the 13" Macbook Pro for $999, but its in store only.

WOW im amazed by the fast replies , THANKS to all, seriously.

i have decided to get the 7,1 cos even if i don't mind much about the unibody or the old case i DO mind about the graphics & performance.... i've also found some users arguing about problems watching HD movies with x3100....so its decided.

about the price , im from Barcelona , spain. the price here for the 7,1 is 1.264 $

I can't believe they're selling the MBP 13' for 999$ in the states! It's a Huge difference! i'll check if they send it over here without any doubt!

THANKS!!!!

I've checked on ebay US sellers and the minimum price is still high... 1 165 $.
