i really need help

i have a maxtor onetouch III 500gb that is 'read-only'. as what stated in https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/601589/ , i believe that they advice us to use third party application in MAC. however it wasnt working and thus i follow the other advice to format it under fat32

the problems further as it becam unreadable in both mac and windows. even the icon isnt showing in both OS.

what should i do then?

thx

If you need to recover data I recommend searching both this forum and the internet for data recovery services, if you dont need any of the contents of the drive, I recommend reformatting it. If you wish it to be Mac only Id use HFS+ (Mac OS X Extended) as the format, otherwise NTFS/FAT32 should work.

Thank you for the reply.

I did reformat the hard disk into fat32 syatem, hpwever it became unreadable on both mac and pc as the icon of the external hard disk isnt available. But, if i run the maxto easy utility software through pc, it's readable. In fact id really like to reformat it again.

Thx
