need help on fixing iphone 4 16gb

hi
i got an iphone4, today and my friend help me on upgrading and erased it when stucked, so it didnt rboot, only shows the apple icon.

i have tried DFU mode mentioned in this forum, but it gives me no option to restore but up grade to 4.2 m little confused m not sure whether have a back up or not. what should i do??

Are you trying to install the beta, 4.2, or the iOS 4.2.1? These are entirely different things and it doesn't help your case if you don't use the right version number.
If you don't want to upgrade to either 4.2 or 4.2.1, you have to have SHSH blobs saved for the earlier iOS. D/l Tiny Umbrella and see if you have any. If you don't, you have no choice but to upgrade.
FYI, start saving your blobs.
