HW:
-1 PC with win7 64bit
-1 PC with Vista
-1 airport extreme

I set a shared folder on my win7 laptop, but can't access it by my vista laptop.

Vista PC report following info.:

-win7 PC online
-windows confirmed vista pc firewall correctly configured
-try to allow connections through TCP port 445

I checked win7 pc, both sharing option and firewall setting, file and printer sharing is allowed by both private and public network

I think maybe it's due to airport extreme setup, can anyone help? how to 'allow TCP port 445?'

thanks!

check the workgroup value.

well, a little bit complicated...

win7 workgroup value 'WORKGROUP', while my vista PC is my working PC which is under my company domain

I can't change them into one workgroup/domain

A list of port's used by Apple devices...As you can see Port 445 is designated MS SMB (Samba) web based sharing.

Can you choose a different port?

I'm not defining any port to use, 445 is the default port, and seems SMB is just what used for sharing folder

I share though dropbox. It works great. It also works for data I want to share with friends and family through shared folders.

i figured out the issue by consulting my company's IT support, seems it's the problem of my company pc, it only works with the pc in same domain for security reason...

ok, that would make sense, thanks for updating the thread - it helps others with the same issue to help themselves.
