Need help on jailbreak and unlock

Hi all,

need your help

Iphone 3gs on 3.1.3 with 5.12 baseband , jailbroken with Spirit and unlocked

i guess its the latest bootrom as its just 3-4 months old

what are the options do i have to update to latest iOS 4.0.1 or 4.1 with unlocking

i am not able to find info on how to update,,,, it would be great if anyone can guide me...

You have two options:

#1 If you have the shsh files saved in Cydia for 4.0/4.0.1/4.0.2 you can upgrade, jailbreak and unlock. No unlock possible for 4.1. - Windows

#2 If you know a friend with a Mac, they can you pwnage tool to create a custom 4.x.x saving your baseband. So you can upgrade, jailbreak and unlock. - Mac

Or look online and try to find a custom 4.1 ipsw created with pwnage.
Then use redsnow on windows to put your phone in DFU in order to restore to the custom firmware thru itunes.
Then open up cydia and install ultrasnow to unlock.

are you sure that i can use redsnow and custom firmware? i jailbreake using spirit on 3.1.3, is this not any issue?

i have shsh blobs saved for 3.1.3.....am i ok to do the upgrade using redsnow?

With the newest version of Redsn0w yes. You just have to download a custom 3gs 4.1 ipsw from a trusted source.

I found a website with custom 4.1 ipsw files but I don't know about the legitimacy about the site.

Hopefully it doesn't fail but if it does, yes, you'll lose the unlock for now.

If it fails and doesn't restore it's ok. You can try another place to download a custom firmware. If it's fake and instead of custom 4.1 ends up being the official Ipsw then your baseband is updated and your unlock gone. But there should be a new unlock soon I heard.
