Hello,

I have one desk that I currently have the following:

1. MacBook air
2. work laptop with dock and external monitor

I need help with organizing my desk. I would like to easily switch and share the external monitor with my work laptop and my MacBook when needed. so I am guessing I need some sort of cable that I can split between both laptops?

Most monitors have several outputs - DP, HDMI, etc. What I do is I have the HDMI cable for my desktop and the DP to USB C for my MacBook. Switching involves a few clicks on the monitor and I'm good to go.

so you just connect the DP to usb c directly to your MacBook and it works?

Yep - any port. Be aware that external USB C hubs often don't do a great job of handling 60hz at 4k. But direct to my 2017 MBP 13' TB -- handles my 4k monitor with ease (direct USB C to display port).

That's what I use.
