A computer malfunction has forced me to deal with what I've put off for years: Combining, de-duping, etc. at least three photo files, 2 are iPhoto and one is Photos (the biggest one). Can someone point me to a resource can offer tips for doing this? Ideally, I'd like to combine all the photo libraries I can find, and then have a program (Gemini 2?) de-dupe that library so I have a single Photos file. Total would be in the 150-200GB range when done. One key question is whether I should have that process occur with the various files on an external SSD v my new Macbook Pro, which has a 1TB SSD. Another is whether it makes sense after I do this to break up the library into smaller libraries.

Many thanks in advance and apologies if this has been addressed before. I couldn't quickly find a thread covering this.

I am about to go through this same process. I don't have any suggestions for you but I'm very interested in this.
