I purchased a used iMac from a member here and it came with Mavericks on it. I want to get back to ML and every thread that I've seen here at MR or elsewhere doesn't seem to work for me.

I'm constantly stuck in the Mav reinstall and I can't seem to get rid of the Mav recovery partition, etc., to start over (things are grayed out, etc., in disk utility in recovery mode).

I have a ML recovery USB stick made and plugged in that I can't seem to access on boot (again, stuck going to Mav reinstall).

I have my older iMac running ML so that is a resource. Since my older iMac was running a bit sluggishly, I wanted to do a clean install of ML on the new machine and then just manually move my files.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Problem solved.

1. Downloaded ML on my other iMac from the App Store
2. Used this sweet app to make a bootable copy on an external HD. http://liondiskmaker.com/
3. Plugged the external HD into the new iMac
4. Held down Option on start. Selected the external HD.
5. Installed ML
6. Voila!
