In a van down by the river
Has anyone been successful installing Sequoia on the 12" 2017 MacBook using 2.20 OCLP? I have tried several times without success. During the install process reboots, the Mac ends up back at the recovery screen options. If you have been successful, what steps did you take and how did it run after install?

I have been running Sequoia on my MB 2017 since release without any problems. No special steps were needed to install with OCLP.

Thanks for the reply. During the install process via USB, the Mac reboots 2-3 times and then ends up back at the recovery screen. The Mac also loses Wifi during the install process. Any ideas? Maybe I am doing something wrong and don't realize it.

Got Sequoia installed a little while ago. The problem was that the 'automated process' didn't default to the correct option during each reboot sequence and I had to babysit each step to make sure I clicked the right option.

Running Sequoia is so much nice on this Mac than Ventura was. It as worth the extra time to get it installed.

Well done! Funny, how installations can differ on the same Mac model. Sequoia runs pretty, pretty good on the little Macbook.

I hook my Macbook to my LAN during upgrades as missing root patches disable wifi etc.

I’m impressed every time I OCLP an older Mac at how well it runs. I’ve been running Sequoia for a while on my 2016 12” and it’s impressively smooth.

Are there any compromises one should be aware of when doing OCLP? I have a 2016 12" and would not mind getting that updated.

Outside of the boot possibly taking a few extra seconds, you should have a very smooth OS experience, in my opinion. If you run Sequoia, you won’t have the new iPhone mirroring feature. That is the only thing I have noticed.

It's been amazingly smooth sailing. Updates take a fair bit longer than they would on a natively-supported machine, and there's the extra step of having it reinstall the patches after the updates are installed, but other than that it's pretty darn solid. I've been running Sequoia on my 2016 12" base and it's been fantastic.

I am surprised by how well the current MacOS runs on the MacBook. I thought I would have issues typing on the butterfly keyboard and so far it has not been an issue for me. The MacBook I am using has been very responsive and I will be replacing my 11-inch Air for this laptop as my new travel laptop. I love that it is feather light and has a Retina display.

Have they solved the hibernation issue yet? Last time I upgraded I faced a rebooted Mac every time I left it for a day or so. Went back to Ventura because of this, but would love to be current.

I tried to install both Sonoma and Sequoia on the 2017 12" 16gb ram and during installation it always comes back to the install option screen where you can install Sequoia, Disk utility, Time Machine, safari. I even went to Disk Utility and erased the drive before installing OS but same issue. All I can do is install the OS over and over and over again. Then I have ot boot up and reinstall Ventura to try it again. 2 days lost on this.

After the initial install Sequoia option after erasing the disk, make sure to pick the HDD icon that is next to the install icon option. Do that for each time the system reboots and shows those two options.

I dont remember this being part of the process. All I saw was 3 sec or 2 icons. Install macOS and install Sequoia. I think those are the ones I saw. I tried clicking on none and clicking on either one of those and noting. Im in an endless install Sequoia loop.
